A blend of heavy and light, old and new, direct and contemplative, KALKO is developing a sound that lives in both nostalgia and reclaims the potential of the present moment. She strives to achieve an alchemy, revealing her own often unconscious emotions through the act of writing and tapping into simple, traditional melodies.
KALKO's upcoming EP aims to tell a story of love, possession and disillusionment through processing effects and combinations of different sonic textures. It will further explore traditional songwriting forms, with warm and seductive melodies giving way to quick bursts of passion.
Some of KALKO's inspirations include: The Beatles, ELO, Radiohead, Thom Yorke, Brian Eno, Portishead, Air, The Smiths, The Buzzcocks, Debussy, Rachmaninov, Russian avant-garde, and contemporary art.
KALKO has released music through One Reason Records and has co-written with Award-Winning Singer-Songwriter Sinem Saniye, Warner Bros. composer Matt Vowles and Portland based lo-fi outfit Die at Myagi's.
